"MARINES INVADE VALLEY TO SAY THANKS FOR GIFTS
Myerstown - Sgt Jonathan Bagley and Cpl Cody Saunders appreciate what Wanda Bechtold and her co-workers at Re/Max of Lebanon County did for their unit while it was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. To say thanks, the young Marines drove here from Camp Lejuene, NC to see Bechtold accept the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce's Beyond the Call Award on behalf of Re/Max of Lebanon County. The award was given at the chamber's annual breakfast yesterday. Bechtold is a Realtor and co-owner with Sally Weise of Re/Max of Lebanon County. The Beyond the Call Award recognizes a chamber employer that has provided support to one or more employees, their spouses and family during a time when a familymember was deployed for active-duty military service. Bagley and Saunders served in the same unit as Bechtold's son, SSGT Robert Bechtold. "They make sure we get all kinds of packages for Christmas," Bagley said of Bechtold and her team of volunteers. "Her and Tom Strohm gave donations to help us out. We felt the love from central Pennsylvania." Strohm is owner of George Strohm Inc., a plumbing and heating service. A page on his firm's Web site is dedicated to Bechtold's project, www.georgestrohm.com/support.php. "They always sent items we could use," said Saunders, a naitve of Conroe, Texas. Bagley mentioned towels, sandals and even an oversized badminton game among those items, many of which are listed on the Web site. When the packages arrived, "morale went through the roof," Bagley said. "It was awesome. It means the world to us."
